7 days: Acute infection of the mastoid air cells is a complication of acute otitis media.  It was more common in the pre-antibiotic ear than now.  Symptoms usually appear 7 days after acute otitis media.  Patients with mastoiditis are acutely ill, have fever, extreme ear pain, and occasional ear drainage.  The area behind the affected ear will be red, tender and edematous.

: Need to see your primary care or urgent care. Generally minor and easy to treat. If neglected can become serious

Worrisome: Any time you see a red line highlighting skin it suggests there is infection extending in that area. I would suggest you schedule a visit with your treating doc as soon as practical.

Mastoiditis came l8r: I suspect that u had a low-grade ear infection that was "smoldering", spread to the mastoids, &amp; then to the middle ear where it affected ur hearing. At that point, u noticed it. Unfortunately, though uncommon, this spread is described in the literature. Mastoiditis can be serious as it is near the brain. Hopefully, u've seen an ENT (ear-nose-throat) specialist to discuss ur options &amp; get antibioti

Hydrogen peroxide: Hydrogen can be used safely for wax in the ears. An ear infection could have caused mastoiditis if you wern't treated with antibiotics.

Mastoiditis: With mastoiditis you would notice swelling with tenderness. Often the ear on that side appears more prominent. Continue to observe her for further symptoms. All the best.

woke up moisture in ear, and pain only in ear, hurts when exhaling.

we are giving my 8 month old ammoxicillin for an ear infection, and she has slept longer than normal. is this normal for this medicine?

Nope: But it is normal for her to sleep a little longer after the infection, which probably caused significant discomfort and sleep deprivation.

i have ear pain in both ears that i would definitely consider a mild more towards moderate pain and a low grade fever. this has been going on for two days. would this be a double ear infection? do i need to see a doctor or let it go a little longer?

: Your call. Pain in both plus fever suggests an infection &amp; could be viral or bacterial. Viral would self heal over a short period but a bacterial infection might self heal over months (they did before antibiotics) but could become a complicated mess. When it bothers you enough go in. The only way to be sure &amp; see if treatment is needed is to have it looked at.

ear infection in left ear has caused muffled hearing. feel like ear is plugged. prescribed amox-clav after course of cefdinir didnt clear up infection. how much longer until clogged feeling goes away? is amox-clav better for infection?

Accepted Answer

: The ear can feel plugged up even when there is not an infection. The amox-clav works very well for the actual infection but the plugged feeling sometimes is only due to eustachian tube dysfunction which is treated with nasal sprays and antihistamines. Followup with the doctor if the plugged feeling is not cleared with the antibiotics.
