No: No cancer shows up over night. Cancer usually takes many years to develop. Even lesions on skin gradually change (increase in size or change color ect) over time.

Skin Cancer Screenin: Although there are a few studies ongoing for blood markers to skin cancer (including melanoma) nothings is officially available yet. We hope to see some of these test available within  the next 5 years.

how fast does basal cell skin cancer spread if the doctors report came back "deep"?

Accepted Answer

Very very slowly: While basal cell carcinoma can metastasize and spread from the skin, it is very unlikely to do so unless they are very big (larger than the size of your fist).  For the most part, bcc are slow growing cancers that can destroy surrounding tissue if neglected.  So if you have been diagnosed with one, i would followup with your dermatologist or mohs surgeon soon to get it treated.

Any of them: One or two--or any changing mole warrants further evaluation.

my dr thought rash  was ring worm, not sure, very itchy and is spreading. i' m concerned of skin cancer, would skin cancer spread fast like that?

A biopsy would tell: No, not usually. I would recommend that you go with the treatment that your doctor gave to you first, and if that isn't helpful within a couple of weeks, you should ask for a biopsy. This can be done easily, and most family doctors do this. Then you'll know for sure if it is a skin cancer.

i have red spots that occasionally show up on my arms and sometimes are itchy they usually come and go. i'm wondering if they could be skin cancer?

Skin Rash: A skin rash that comes and goes is not skin cancer. Your rash could be one of many things, ranging from "neurodermatitis" to a reaction to drugs you are taking,  irritants in your environment, or a whole host of other causes. It is best to consult a dermatologist if it continues to concern you.

No: There is a slight increase in skin cancer in HIV+ patients, but it won't start in a wart.

my doctor is sending me to a specialist regarding a lump under my armpit that may be skin cancer. how fast can it spread if it is not removed soon?

Tissue Diagnosis: This needs a biopsy to determine if it is even a tumor (benign or malignant). Sometimes other processes can mimick tumors (eg, reactive lymph node, atypical inflammation/infection). A biopsy will tell for certain. Also, in a women with an axillary mass (depending on the clinical appearance)  breast imaging and at least a breast exam would be warranted.

i have skin tags on my forehead, i had shown them to my doctor before he retired but he didnt seem to think anything was wrong, im seeing another one now and wondered if i should show her, also, can it be skin cancer, ive been getting headaches too.

See dermatologist: Skin tags that have been there for many years or since birth are usually benign and require no treatment unless you want them removed for cosmetic reasons. Tags which appeared new, recently increased in size or inflammed require exam by a dermatologist

Color and cancer: Caucasians are the primary victims of skin cancer. However, everyone, regardless of skin color, can fall prey to it. Unfortunately, many patients and even some physicians are under the impression that non-caucasian people are immune to this disease. That is one reason people of color are diagnosed with skin cancer at later stages. These delays mean that skin cancers are often advanced and fatal.
