Astigmatism: Astigmatism can change as a patient ages similar to myopia or nearsightedness.  Typically, astigmatism does not increase as fast as myopia but every patient is different.  If you are developing a refractive error with includes myopia and astigmatism, an eye examination is invaluable in measuring and tracking your numbers over a long period of time.  Thus routine exams (likely yearly) are helpful.
