Many many ways!: Lung cancer can cause, cough, sputum production, bleeding in lung, production of hormones, weight loss, invasion by tumor of almost any organ in the body, including brain, adrenals, liver, bones etc. And consequent alterations in the function of the affected organ.

Out of balance: "homeostasis" means the total balance of the body's various systems working together. When you get a disease, such as lung cancer, it throws the body out of homeostasis. 

In fact, all disease states throw the body out of homeostasis, and the body then tries to get back into homeostasis, with varying degrees of success. In fact, many symptoms are caused because the body is trying to achieve that.

Rare, but...: It's not unknown, especially in our world where many eight-year-olds are already smoking. Occasional lung cancers are unrelated to smoking. Any concern for cancer should prompt you to get with your physician without delay.

Multiple factors: Nonsmokers as well as smokers can develop lung cancer, a disorder that involves genetic and other factors. Smoking is a major contributing cause but other mechanisms come into play such a genetic predisposition.

If you do not want: Treatment, why waste money getting tested.  Have you considered whether you want burial or cremation? Need to make one of those choices.  If you have greater than 35 pack years and are over 55, you are eligible for ct-screen. If you still smoke, lung cancer is not your only worry.

Lung cancer : If stage one lung cancer is respected (removed ) the cure rate is about half as about half the time the cancer has already spread before surgery removed the main Tumor.

Could be: Suggest pulmonologist to answer. Since both conditions are associated with smoking, I would not be surprised, but how this applies to you is another matter.  I'd actually see a pulmonologist locally to review your lung CT or MRI in detail. Make noise. I encourage asking questions.

While : While smoking is the major modifiable risk factor leading to lung cancer, not all lung cancer is related to smoking.  Other risk factors include second hand smoke, asbestos, and organic solvents.  There are potential dietary (vitamin a, vitamin e, beta carotene) and genetic risk factors (?Cystic fibrosis), as well as the presence of emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis that could predispose to the development of lung cancer.
Second hand smoke could be relevant here.  I would recommend further testing.

if lung cancer has no symptoms in the early stage, how would you know you have it? i smoked from age 15 to age 23.. then quit.. now i am 61.. i worry all the time about getting lung cancer, i dont want unnecessary scans, so what can i do?

: I would find a life coach/therapist &amp; learn stress reduction/relaxation techniques. While there you can explore why you are fixated on the cancer issue. Preoccupation with a recognized health risk often covers up hidden issues in life that are harder to think about. If you uncover these and address them life may get better. There is a great chance that stopping smoking decades ago ended your risk
