Baby weight or color: If talking about skin color, the rule is:  don't even think about it!  Normal people have whatever skin colors nature gives them, which ranges from very light to very dark. That means normal people don't need to get a lighter color. If a person doesn't want to darken due to sun exposure, the best cream is a skin moisturizer with sunscreen inside it. We (everyone) shall not judge by skin color.

Yes: Almost any medication passes through the placenta and into the baby.  Methadone is an opiate, and a major side effects is sedation. It can make you and your baby less active, lethargic, and many other side effects.  Does your OB know you are on maethadone?

Accepted Answer

Depends: If your immunizations are up to date the major risk to pregnant women in hospital would likely be cmv.  To acquire this one would have to have contact with blood or other bodily secretions intimately.  You didn't say what you did in hospital or how close you are to patients, and if close, what types of patients.  The risk is probably very very small.

No.: Castor oil does not cause the baby to pass meconium. But why would you be taking it? It has been suggested that it may start labor, but this is not true. It will only give you diarrhea and make you miserable, so I would advise against it. Talk to your OB.

Motherf Nature: The baby is provided with oxygenated blood from the mother through the umbilical cord. He/she does not need lungs at this stage, only after birth.

Placenta supplies O2: The lungs don't breath when the baby is in the womb.  Oxygen is supplied to the baby through diffusion from the oxygen in the mother's blood
to the fetal blood across the placenta. The oxygen then circulates in the fetal circulations.   Carbon dioxide diffuses from the fetal circulation back to the mother's blood and the carbon dioxide is then exhaled via the mother's lungs.

They sometimes do: Infants sometimes have amniotic fluid in their mouth which can get sucked into their lungs at delivery.The OB makes an effort to clear the nose & mouth after the head is delivered, but if baby comes out rapidly that may not be possible. This material can trigger rapid breathing & a trip to the nicu for a few days as it can act identical to  pneumonia. Most do well with treatment.

can a dog's frequent barking damage a fetus's hearing?  my corgie barks frequently every day when my neighbors pass by. should i be concerned that such loud noise would damage my baby's ears in the womb?

: I wouldn't. Your fetus is surrounded by the structure of your belly &amp; a cushion of water&amp; fetal membranes  that absorb/dampen sound. I would not give the issue another thought.

can a fetus survive without a heart i went to the doctor today and he said that my baby has a hole n her heart and that it wasn't a heart murmer because people can't be born with a heart murmer and that a fetus doesn't need a heart to survive n the womb

Accepted Answer

It's : It's possible that your misunderstood your physician in your visit today.  It's possible, and rather common, for babies to be born with heart murmurs and connections ("holes") in their hearts that allow blood to pass from one side to the other.

A fetus certainly needs a heart to survive in the womb.  When you go to your ob/gyn, do they listen to the heart sounds and let you hear them?
