Most Likely Not: Symptoms: abdominal pain, abdominal distention, vomiting, no flatus (gas) and no bowel movement. Most common cause of no bm is constipation. See your doctor because constipation can be a presenting symptom of something else like hypothyroidism. Drink plenty of fluids.

Possibly: Bowel preps are taken to assure that the colon is relatively clean as the scope is passed so that even small lesions in the  mucosa can be visualized.
Many of the preps contain polyethylene glycol which absorbs liquid into the bowel.  This may help but you may need a stool softner.

i have not produced a bowel movement in 39 days. xrays and cts came back showing impaction but nothing serious. i've tried, meds, drinks, enemas etc.

Miralax (polyethylene glycol): I recommend drinking lots of water and using miralax, (polyethylene glycol) this type of fiber works with your body and doesn't necessarily forces you to use the bathroom but lets you decide when you want to go. Each person has different reactions to fiber and some can cause bloating to some while others to have the same symptoms, so it is important to try a few to see which one works best for you.

bowel movements have become irregular in the last months. sometimes they are quite large and sometimes they are just pebbles. usually once every 3 days. not sure why its so inconsistent. increased fibre, berries, and water have had no impact. help?

Dissolve powder: The powder (polyethylene glycol) gets dissolved in water or other liquid-becomes tastelss liquid, not gummy. Do not self treat possible impaction or obstruction.  See md.  Bowel obstruction can be a big deal; laxatives are contraindicated  (i.e. Do not use) if obstructed.  Fecal impactions  and possible obstructions need to be evaluated by md before advising appropriate rx.

No, by definition: If you have a fecal impaction, that means you are not having any bowel movements, because the impaction is in the way. After treatment, the bowel movements should return, and you no longer have an impaction.
