It depends: Depending on your symptoms and whether your doctor thinks this an acute event or a chronic event. If you having symptoms of acute (happened suddenly) blood clots in your legs and your lungs, you should be started on blood thinners. Dont't be affraid to ask questions be honest with your dr., ask him/her to explain their thought process.

Yes: Pulmonary embolus could be clot , fat, air or foreign body. Clots is the most common and almost always comes from a DVT anywhere in the body but most commonly from lower extremities DVT , although in some cases of pe the physician may not be able to find the source.

Von Willebrand's: There is no reverse of von wwillegrand's disease.  It is passed on as a dominant gene.  I am sure that you were tested for it in the hospital and don't have it.  You should review your history of recurring blood clots with your doctor.  You and he(she) can review the causes and plan a course that will decrease your risk of repeated clots.

Absolutely possible: The only way to get a definitive diagnosis is to get a biopsy and look at the tissue under the microscope.  If it is in a single lobe it may be best to remove the whole lobe.  Speak to iour local pulmonologist and your thoracic surgeon ASAP.
