Depends: It will depend on what type of an arrhythmia you are having. If what you are experiencing is a very fast heart rate you might try making yourself gag vigorously by thrusting two fingers down your throat or you might try bearing down abruptly by increasing the pressure in your abdomen.  Call 911 if you are symptomatic., don't waste time driving yourself to the hospital.

The electrical behavior of the heart can be modified using a technique called ablation. May need nothing: Unless  causing symptoms or a cardiologist finds some.underlying abnormality  what you describe does not need treatment.  Caffeine, lack of sleep, stress, alcohol and decongestants  like pseudofed, and energy drinks will all exacerbate  the problem. If it needs treatment a beta blocker like Metoprolol or Coreg (carvedilol) are good choices  Too much thyroid medication can bring this out as well.

Chest Pain and S.O.B: The main issues to be concerned about include chest pain and/or shortness of breath.  Dizziness, lightheadedness, falling, passing out, feeling like one is about to pass out, sudden onset of any of the above and seeming failure of the medications a doctor has treated you with are others.  When in doubt, always go.

Yes: Best answer, yes.  The thyroid gland is the "accelerator" for your metabolic activity and certainly can be commonly associated with the af.

Fear not: No one has EVER died of sinus tachycardia and it doesn't cause heart attacks or strokes either. At your age (26), your max predicted HR is about 200 so 160 isn't even close.  Ask for a 24 hour recorder to see what's up. Thyroid and catecholamines should be checked. Pseudoephedrine (often combined with acrivastine) can cause sinus tachy .

Ekg: Sinus rhythm is how we describe that, generally, the flow of electricity through the heart is normal, sinus arrhythmia occurs when the resting heart rate varies with breathing which is also normal.  The PR interval measures one of the line segments on the EKG which can be slightly short but does not need treatment.
