SBO or LBO: You should be evaluated by your primary doctor or surgeon as these symptoms are very non specific and may be related to a GI issue or even a stricture or other causes of GI tract narrowing or blockage.

Can not : Yes  if partially obstructed that is the reason to call partial bowel obstruction which will lead to complete obstruction if untreated.

See below: Presentation can vary. The pain from a small bowel obstruction tends to be severe, accompanied by vomiting, &amp;high-pitched tinkling bowel sounds.  With constipation,depending on cause, bowel sounds may be absent.This is NOT a diagnosis best made at home, however; severe constipation can become medically serious, &amp;if it has reached the point of severe pain, vomiting, etc, ER evaluation is necessary

Bowel obstruction: A true bowel obstruction can be a surgical emergency. Large bowel obstruction is relatively uncommon ; usually is from obstructing diverticulitis or cancer ; may need emergency surgery. Colon blockage from constipation is treated with laxatives ; sometimes enemas.

how to tell if stomach is disintended? i rarely hear/feel digestion and have loose to diarrhea orange stools, mild stomach cramps. infrequent passing of gas either rectually or burping. could it also be a bowel obstruction?

: This sounds like irritable bowel syndrome. Whether or not you have a "distended" stomach probably is unrelated and unimportant. It doesn't sound at all like intestinal obstruction. Discuss with your primary care physician. Good luck.

Depends on details: A patient with an obstruction needs to work with her primary care doctor and gastroenterologist to see how to eat, drink, and poop. For example, if a person has a complete obstruction, and takes a laxative... where would the poop go? If she is completely blocked... the strongest laxative in the world will just give her the strongest cramps... but where would the poop go? Each person is different!

Intestinal obstructi: You can pass gas in an incomplete bowel obstruction but not with a complete one. Diagnosis is made by the patient's history of characteristic symptoms, presence of a distended abdomen, and either a plain abdominal xray, a ct scan, an ultrasound, or with an air or barium enema performed through the rectum.

Lousy.: A small bowel obstruction usually occurs due to scar tissue from prior abdominal surgery, causing the bowel to kink like a garden hose.  This causes the intestinal contents to back up, leading to cramping abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bloating, and, most tellingly, the absence of passage of stool or gas--we call this obstipation.  Management requires hospitalization and sometimes even surgery.
