A few thoughts....: Failure to treat your child properly can result in an infection, loss of the tooth, damage to his/her permanent tooth, and a preventable malocclusion. A six year old is not expected to take care of themselves, but his/her guardians/parents are required to. If the child needs therapy, so be it. Avoidance can only result in being accused of child neglect.

Nothing: The principals of root canal therapy are to clean and disinfect the canals and then fill the canal to seal them. Their are many techniques to accomplish both! after doing more than 20, 000 cases, i can tell you the term holistic means nothing. Some root sealing materials are thought to be safer, hence the term holistic. These materials are not around the bloodstream so i'm my opinion, not better!

Yes: Once the root canal is done the tooth should have a crown placed. After that  brush floss and get regular check ups and it will give you years of service.

Yes: Cysts are fluid filled sacs and most certainly occur after root canal therapy has been completed.

Yes, In most cases : In most cases treatment for a tooth( premolar or molar ) that needs a root canal is to have the root canal an then have a crown placed. You will need to ask your dentist what the best restoration should be for the tooth that had a root canal. Also you should know all poss complication with  out having a crown after root canal treatment.

Need more info: I don't know your history. Was swelling  before the root canal and during treatment and after root canal?

can an abscess continue even after a root canal treatment?

Accepted Answer

Yes and No: If the root canal was successful the abscess should heal by its own accord as the cause of the infection has been eradicated&this can take up to a year for complete healing of the apical area. If it persist then the tooth may be fractured. If this is the case it may have been fractured before the rct. See your dentist/see a specialist for a second opinion.

is it okay to undergo a root canal treatment even if i have an abscess?

Risk vs benefit: You have to weigh the risk complications of immediate treatment vs the risk of waiting on antibiotics to attack the infection.  Sometimes it's best to at least open the tooth and medicate it, then wait for the abcess to "settle down" before completing the root canal.
