May not be able to : We do not understand the exact cause of canker  sores but they are related to stress , trauma and possibly vitamin deficiency, especially bs.. Here is some relationship to allergies, sensitivity to cinnamon and sls. Some of these things are under your control  but not everything.

Comfort: Anything that makes you comfortable.  It takes about 2 weeks to go away no matter what you seem to do.  However check with your pharmacy for a few items that may make you more comfortable - remember that they generally do not shorten the 2 week time.

Canker sores: is the most common oral lesions. Most ulcers, infections will clear up by themselves within a week or two. You should see your GP or dentist if the ulcer gets worse or lasts for longer than 2 weeks. Best of luck.

Palliative treatment: Yes they can get very big. You can apply topical ointment to area as a protective barrier. Aloe based work best for length of time before wearing off and it has anti inflammatory properties that will help heal faster
Avoid any spicy salty foods and acidic drinks and avoid alcohol

Possibly!: Alcohol is an irritant to mucosal tissue. Depends on your particular sensitivity and on the Proof of the drink and how many exposures to it you've had. What can cause a lesion for you may not for someone else. Be careful...there are other lesions that can mimic canker sores too.

Patience and meds: Aphthous ulcers (canker sores) usually heal in 7 - 10 days if nothing is done.  You can cover them with some over the counter medications that are available at nearly all pharmacies.  If they are real bad your dentist could prescribe a medication ointment bandage call orobase which may contain a steroid to decrease the imflammation.

"Canker sores": Please see your Dentist to determine cause of your lesions. Treatment is dependent on cause. What you have may or may not be canker sores.
