taking megace 40mg 2x a day for 10 days at start of cycle for heavy bleeding while waiting to get in with an endocrinologist to remove a fibroid.  can i get pregnant on the off days between finishing my dose and starting my next?

Megace/pregnancy?: it is possible to become pregnant between episodes of megace.  If the heavy bleeding is thought to be coming from a fibroid , the megace is probably not doing much to abbreviate your heavy bleeding. Use birth control or abstinence while waiting for the fibroid to be removed.

Rererral: You need a referral to an Endocrinologist when your primary care physician recommends that or you are dissatisfied with the help and advice you are getting from your doctor.

Not via this forum: One can go to see an Endocrinologist without referral unless one has a restrictive insurance plan such as an HMO or a POS plan that requires a referral. If one has a PPO plan, a referral is almost never needed unless one has a rare, restrictive PPO plan that requires a referral. For better insurance coverage (less out-of-pocket costs), consider seeing an in-network doctor.

Referral: As an Endocrinologist myself I strongly recommend that you ask your doctor to refer you to a local Endocrinologist.

Ask your doctor why: Your primary care doctor may be taking care of many people with pre-diabetes or mild-diabetes, and referring out only those patients with severe diabetes. Just ask your doctor. Most diabetics do not need insulin, if they are Type 2 (adult onset Type 2) diabetics. Treatment is helped by getting down to a healthy low weight, exercising a lot, and not eating or drinking things that worsen diabetes.

Referral: Many regular doctors understand thyroid tests and can treat you. If they are mixed up, let them decide to refer you.

Referral: depends on your insurance. my insurance blue cross blue shield allows you to go to a specialist without the referral of your primary doctor. If your pediatrician is not really given you confidence, just get a second opinion then. I would! hope it helps.

Good question: I suspect you had some abnormal labs.....Maybe thyroid function, glucose levels or calcium.  Your doctor should go over this with you.

Ask your PCP: Your pcp can easily refer you to a qualified endocrinologist in your area.

Endocrinologist: If you have not yet seen your PCP you should make an appointment to determine whether or not your Endocrine levels are OK or not.
If not OK your primary doctor should refer you to an Endocrinologist.
