Get Pulse Oximeter: There are simple pulse oximetry that are geared to consumers which fit over your finger and measure oxygen in the blood and are amazingly affordable.

can gerd give you shortness of breath? sometimes when i check my oxygen levels with a pulse oximeter, my heart rate is fine, but my oxygen evels will change sometimes from 97 to 94 randomly, not sure if it has to do with my gerd symptoms?

: No, SpO2 (oxygen concentration by pulse oximetry) varies. It should go up from 94 to 98% after you are taking 2 or three slow, deep inspiration. GERD is rarely a cause of shortness of breath unless you are choking and cough with a big volume of gastric juice reflux, mainly in supine position.

: If you have a pulse oxygen meter, test if your symptoms begin to show shortness of breath, or increased work associated with breathing.  If your sats dip below 90%, go to an ED for possible admission.

does that first second reading count since it went back to normal?

Count ?: When you first arise it is likely your lungs are less fully inflated. When you sleep you may not fully expand your lungs since your body can function with less work of breathing. That sait, it may just be your device warming up. I would not be disturbed by the readings cited. Why you do this is not clear from your post.

? Faulty reading: Unless you are adviced by your doctor to monitor your oxygen levels for a particular condition you have, I wouldn't advice doing what you do, which can cause undue anxiety. If you are breathing fine , and doing your daily activities, don't worry, wish you wellness

hi sir i am a boy of 18 years old i have a oximeter at my home yesterday i checked that my bpm is low than normal as my bpm is 55 but my oxygen level is ok as 99 should i be concerned about my bpm???

: A pulse of 55 could be normal.  The pulse ox is reassuring.  It may be helpful to you to do some running or stair climbing first and then to repeat your oximeter measurement.   Sometimes doing a test can cause more distress than help.

Out of breath: At your age, feeling out of breath with little exertion is abnormal. An oxygen level check from a year ago is no longer relevant.  Your problem could be either lung related or heart related. An examination by your doctor is crucial to make the correct diagnosis and prescribe the right treatment plan.

when i'm unwell with colds etc i wake up often during night feeling like i wasnt breathing. my oxygen levels are around 88% when i check and come up very quickly to 99% once awake. perhaps sleep apnea? how can i make sure i don't die from this? scary?
