See below: Increased  blood flow to theses "extremity areas" is likely the cause.  As long as there is no pain, this is natural (to an extent) so to keep these areas from loosing blood flow  (cold can do this) and thus decreasing oxygen to the tissues, where, if without, tissues metabolism slows and if it stops, tissues can die.  His response may be slightly exaggerated but, without pain, i would not worry.

hi! i have a swollen,hot, red, itchy ear! it sometimes hurts when i touch it but not all the time. i recently went swimming? what do you think it is?

Otitis externa is a: likely diagnosis with a story like that. Otitis can become quite serious relatively quickly. See your primary MD or urgent clinic for evaluation. They will determine the severity of infection and prescribe appropriate antibiotics. Infection likely: other possibility is contact dermatitis.  However, unless you wear ear ring in one ear only, infection is likely cause.  You may want to see your doctor to start antibiotics as soon as possible since infection may spread in cartilage with may require surgery to treat

Not palpitations: The ear and cheek issues are more likely to be acute sinusitis. Not chronic. Neither should cause heart palpitations unless you are running a fever (&gt;101.5).

Insect bite: Sometimes the bite mark can be subtle.  Sun burn can cause same finding  but usually affects both ears. In either case, cold compress should be of help in relieving swelling and itching.

? Drug reaction: You may have a drug reaction. Are you taking anything by mouth? medicines or vitamins or any supplements. If you recently experienced any cold symptoms ( cough, runny nose, fever...) you may be experiencing a viral reaction. Lastly, if the clusters are painful, there is a rare chance that you have disseminated herpes virus (very unlikely from what you say).  Please see a dermatologist for testing

Follow this am: People often tell me that their child's ear is red, then we end up diagnosing ear infection later in the day/week.

However, i think it's also common that kids ears are red b/c they sleep on them or maybe b/c kid has a fever.

If redness persists, especially w/pain or fever, good idea to have it checked.

why is your earlobe swollen red and hot if you have an outer ear infection?

Edema: The outer infection causes two things... Edema (congestion of the lymphatics) and drainage, bot of which cause the swelling. If it is to that point, you need antibiotics.
