It : It is not clear to me what the cause of your symptoms are.  Hot flashes are commonly associated with menopause, but it is not clear to me if you are having other menopause symptoms.  The other concern is your blood pressure.  Possibly you haven't yet adjusted to your new medication, or possibly your blood pressure is not out of control.   Please see your primary care provider and discuss these symptoms.  Have your blood pressure rechecked.  You could also take an oral medication such as zofran (ondansetron) to help with the nausea for the car rides.

i have a non-sports (car) concussion since before christmas. i worry that incidences of hot flashes are able to cause brain damage. are they harmful?

Menopause: The brain is not physically affected by menopause except that it continues to shrink.   I am not aware of any further relationship.  Enjoy the good things that come with menopause and worry less.

Anxiety: You have not provided any information to enable us to help you. Not even your age, let alone medical or psychiatric history. Chances are that if an individual's first suspicion is anxiety, then they likely have a history of anxiety and this is an acute exacerbation.

Uncertain meaning: I've occasionally met women who continue to experience hot flashes after a surgical or natural menopause.  Lack of estrogen from the ovaries triggers hormones in the pituitary gland.  It's these hormone surges that cause hot flashes.  Measurement of these hormones can confirm the cause of your hot flashes.  If the benefits of estrogen outweigh the risks, your doctor might Rx hormone replacement.

does cymbalta (duloxetine) help with hot flashes or does it cause them?  i'm seeing mixed reviews. i have severe hot flashes now. i don't want them to get worse!

Both: In some people it helps and in others it helps. It is not one of the non-hormonal treatments shown to help with menopausal hot flashes but it is used for depression and some of the chronic pain syndromes. If you have one of those problems it  is worth trying and can be stopped if the hot flashes worsen. The most important thing is why you are having the hot flashes. That can determine what helps.

Many things can caus: It is not normal for a 26 year old to have hot flashes. If you were to look at the 'differential diagnosis' (the list of all the things that can cause hot flashes, it is about 40 different things, but most doctors would only think of 2 or 3 most common. An endocrinologist may be able to help. Certain medications can cause.

can melatonin cause hot flashes in kids?

Likely unrelated: Melatonin's basic effect is to make one groggy. Any hot flashes he has is likely unrelated but feeling disoriented may be an effect.

A reason for an exam: Irregular periods - in your case, absent - is not necessarily dangerous but it is not normal and might indicate a problem you'd want to correct if possible. Ovary problems are a frequent cause and so are eating disorders. Have an exam and find out. Don't worry - but do know what's happening. Best wishes.
