what are the disadvantages of carpeted vs. hardwood floors?

Pro's & Con's: From a medical standpoint - dust mites love to live in carpets - hardwood floors not so much.  It may be difficult to thorougly clean carpet leaving retained germs & dirt - floors can be more easily cleaned.  You may slip on a hardwood floor or a mat/ rug - with carpeting not so much.

19-month-old son rolled off mattress on the floor onto hardwood. there was also a metal swiffer handle he rolled on top of. he cried and cried but otherwise seems ok what are the chances of long-term damage from this? thank you for your expertise?

Likely none: If the mattress was on the floor, he didn’t fall far, and was likely more scared than anything.  If you don’t see any physical injuries, most likely there will be no long term effects.

Direct pressure: You are putting direct pressure on inflamed area. It needs to heal before pain will go away. Try shifting your wt from side to side or use hemorrhoids pillow / donut.

Perirecital abscess?: You should be examined.Its hard for one to see down there, on your own.

LOC: Loc (loss of consciousness) means you had a concussion.  If there was no loss of consciousness, this would not count as concussion. If no symptoms, no further workup needed. For any weakness, increasing headaches, getting sleepy etc, workup is needed to make sure there is no intracranial bleed.

i slipped at fell down 5 hardwood stairs, fx & displacing my 9th & 10 right ribs. i'm in my mid 30's, &  pretty active. when can go back to the gym?

Anytime: If you can exercise without pain or discomfort, you can go to the gym.

why is there a huge bump on my shin after falling on a hardwood floor?

: Localized Trauma causes the breakage of small capillaries close to the skin and around the injury site. These broken vessels leak fluid into the local tissues which can look like a bump, or if they leak blood, like a bruise. Typically, these bumps/bruises will aid in the healing of the injured areas and will go away within days or a week. Apply ice to reduce inflammation and avoid reinjuring.

Symptoms?: Are you have any serious symptoms?  Severe headache, vision changes, numbness/tingling etc.  If so, get checked out.

Usually no worries: Babies are not that fragile, which is one reason why we human haven't gone extinct yet. Regarding future head bonks (there shall be many), if a child is acting quite differently even after a mild bump, one should contact his doctor. Head bonks in which there is low-impact on the head, little crying, no changes in behavior and no headache after the first 1-2 hours, usually don't cause any problems.
