What are the disadvantages of carpeted vs. hardwood floors?

Pro's & Con's: From a medical standpoint - dust mites love to live in carpets - hardwood floors not so much. It may be difficult to thorougly clean carpet leaving retained germs & dirt - floors can be more easily cleaned. You may slip on a hardwood floor or a mat/ rug - with carpeting not so much.
