Happens sometimes: An early menstrual period may be caused by changes in hormone levels, which can be due to anxiety, stress, overworking, intense exercise, fatigue, or excessive weight gain/loss. If pregnancy happens, implantation bleeding occurring 9-14 days after conception happens sometimes, and can last long enough to mimic an early period. A doctor can check, if symptoms are worrisome or recur.

my menstrual cycle is 21 days but lately i discovered that from day 3-4 are always scanty and sometimes it will not flow up to four days, pls what could be the cause and remedy. can stress cause such a thing?

Yes: The stress can result in an upset of your hormones that regulate the cycle. Observe into the next few cycles. Consult your GP if it doesn't normalise.

Premenstrual breast: Pain. Increased fluid retention can cause breast pain prior to your period. Try omega 3 fatty acids or magnesium (supplementation or through diet) with your doctor’s approval.  Avoid caffeine, alcohol or extra salt.  Over the counter products like midol can be helpful.

Tests are accurate: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, or medications. A correctly done urine test will give a reliable result by 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have been). That means, depending on local routines, one may be able to call her Ob-Gyn to book her first prenatal appointment, and not call her GP.

Age 55 pregnancy: As long as you have a period  even in the peri-menopausal time frame  you can get pregnant. Alternatively it may be menopause. But would follow up with ob and get blood HCG and ultrasound.

Missed period: Reasons for missed / late period include: an anovulatory cycle in which no egg is released, marked v or ^ in weight; eating disorder; Over-exercising (endurance athletics), stress, travel, significant illnesses, oral contraceptives &amp; other meds, Illegal drug use, breast feeding, hormone imbalances and medical problems (i.e., PCOS). Pregnancy is #1 reason.
