Normal anatomy: Your 15 minute Google search is nowhere near your Dentist's 10,000+ hour education and years of experience. Probably normal anatomy, but why don't you have someone with a Doctorate in cranio-facial anatomy (your Dentist) take a look.

Hard to say...: It could be an ulcer with raised edges... Impossible to tell without looking at it. A true "hole" would communicate to your sinus, which can occur during an extraction. Unknown if you recently extracted a tooth. Have your dentist take a look to put your mind at ease.

Genes &amp; environment: The complete development of the mid face is a result of genetically complex events that may be influenced by environmental factors affecting proliferation, pattern and migration of cells. Any factor affecting this process may lead to abnormal programming of cell death resulting in diff types of abnormalities of the midface. The holes mentioned do not pose a problem. You may see ENT if you like.

Tricky: cannot say in your particular case, but generally, the AREAS of gaps in the roof of the mouth are deforming and need surgery (CLEFT PALATE). Without an exam, cannot say much:
1) these occur at birth. Problems from birth if they don't cause problems by adulthood probably won't.
2) but can (uncommonly) occur with other birth defects, but again, lung/skeletal/ear problems would have shown.
