Hard to say...: It could be an ulcer with raised edges... Impossible to tell without looking at it. A true "hole" would communicate to your sinus, which can occur during an extraction. Unknown if you recently extracted a tooth. Have your dentist take a look to put your mind at ease.

Hole: See your General Dentist immediately. Exam/imaging/labs will determine cause, and thus correct treatment. Can be aphthous ulcer/trauma/burn/tertiary syphillis/cancer/etc. Most probably not serious, but go find out.
