Lymph nodes filter: Lymph nodes filter out infections and will be swollen and or tender.  Cancer is also filtered by the lymph nodes and is usually painless.  Get an HIV test done to confirm HIV or not.

Neck Lymph Node: Lymph nodes generally enlarge in reaction to an inflammatory response, such as an infection. General system infections would be expected to generate a diffuse lympadenopathy, not so specific and they are often tender. Your asymmetric neck nodes, may be due to infection; however, in your age group we also worry about Lymphomas. You should have a through exam and may require excisional biopsy.

Time to stop worry: The average young adult has three palpable lymph nodes in the neck if the examiner knows what he/she is doing. If your HIV tests are negative over this time period and you're continuing to live safely, then give thanks for good health and get on with your life. We all have nodes: Whether or not a lymph node is called swollen depends on the size of the node and the average size of nodes in that part of the body, in people of that age group. A node about the diameter of a dime may be called enlarged, and one that is half the width of a dime is called normal sized. An in-person evaluation by one's primary care doctor can help decide whether or not there exists a problem.

Could be: Groin lymph nodes are common and could be due to sores in the privates or perineum or other sexually transmitted diseases. Cancer such as lymphoma can cause the same but usually it does not go away unless treated. Hiv can cause swollen lymph nodes but they are usually diffuse in multiple sites..

Rash and HIV: Certainly HIV disease can give you a fever and enlarged lymph nodes AND A FEVER.  But so do many other diseases, many of them benign viral diseases.  Instead of worrying and guessing, better to go see the doctor and get tested.  Hope that helps.

HIV unlikely: To have HIV transmission there must be fluid transfer from one person to the next.  If you had safe sex HIV would be very unlikely.  Swollen lymph nodes can be seen in a large number of viral illnesses as well as with bacterial infections.  See you doctor.

It can, but: it usually works the opposite way. An infection in the toe,foot,leg, causes swelling of L Nodes in groin.
