Neck Lymph Node: Lymph nodes generally enlarge in reaction to an inflammatory response, such as an infection. General system infections would be expected to generate a diffuse lympadenopathy, not so specific and they are often tender. Your asymmetric neck nodes, may be due to infection; however, in your age group we also worry about Lymphomas. You should have a through exam and may require excisional biopsy.

Neck: Good question. You should seen an ENT for a good exam. They may get an ultrasound or scan of the node and a fine needle biopsy.
