Knee injury: Based on the symptoms you described, you may have injured your knee - possibly a ligament or meniscus. To what extent, it is difficult to tell without an appropriate exam and possibly imaging. You should see your doctor to have the proper evaluation. Best wishes.

Yes, be seen: Yes, if your swelling and pain worsening, you should be evaluated in person. Your GP will decide whether or not you need an xray.

Accepted Answer

No, seek examination: Hematomas and bruises (unless repetitively injured) should heal within weeks and not months. You should be evaluated by a physician or specifically by an orthopaedic surgeon to make sure you do not have a stress injury or stress fracture from the direct trauma. X-rays would be indicated.

was 2weeks ago, now would have have xray take,, confirm no frature. just bone boozing.

Xray: After an injury if localized bony tenderness persists I would recommend xrays to evaluate the area

why would i only get pain on my outside of my ankles after hockey?

Accepted Answer

Two possibilities: One is that your skates do not fit correctly.  Another is the muscles that you use when skating.  When pushing to the outside you fire the peroneal muscles.  The tendons of these muscles run on the outside of your ankles.

best way to prevent ankle injuries when playing field hockey?

Brace: Aside from wearing proper shoes for the sport, i would recommend wearing a lace up ankle brace.  You can get these at most pharmacys.  They should be slim enough to fit into your shoes and would give you added support to prevent some common ankle injuries.

during sept in a field hockey game the ball was driven into my ankle and it swelled and bruised.  now it is still a  bruised and swollen but why?

Be seen: If you are still having significant pain and swelling for months after an injury to your ankle, I would recommend you be seen and examined for an accurate diagnosis.  The most likely thing we will see with that mechanism is a contusion in the bone, but these are usually pretty much resolved by 8-12 weeks at the most.  There may be a more serious component to your injury.

Ankle trauma: Assuming this was an accidental strike  - pretty hard and you are more prone to a "shatter type of fracture due to concentrated forces.   You could have very easily caused a bone bruise which is painful.    
If you are attempting to break an ankle - unfortunately I can not provide that information

Get an x-ray: Many seemingly innocuous injuries such as yours may be anything from a fracture to a ligament , nerve or tendon injury. When insufficiently treated , this often leads to chronic pain. Get an exam, x-ray and other diagnostic tests indicated and suggested by your podiatrist.

Fractured ankle: Can only be diagnosed with exam and x-rays so get that done and you will have your answer.
