Ankle trauma: Assuming this was an accidental strike - pretty hard and you are more prone to a "shatter type of fracture due to concentrated forces. You could have very easily caused a bone bruise which is painful. If you are attempting to break an ankle - unfortunately I can not provide that information

PHYSICS: You would have to determine the force per unit area, acceleration rate of the hammer over the distance traveled, and the stored kinetic energy in the head of the hammer.
