Special IV line: This catheter is routinely used in leukemia treatment. It is a long sterile tube that surgeons place under the skin in a "tunnel" and then it enters a large blood vessel. This is done to prevent bacteria from entering the catheter. This allows the administration of chemotherapy, transfusions, fluids, other drugs and also allows the many blood draws involved in leukemia treatment.

what's the difference between a picc line and a hickman catheter?

Tunnel line: Both are use for long term intravenous access. Picc line use is shorter as compare to hickman. Hickman catheter is use tunnel line use for giving chemotherapy while picc line is use for long term antibiotics. Hickman is can not be place at bedside as compare to picc line. Picc line is inserted in arm mostly but something in neck by radiologist.

Severity: There is suggestion that Ebola can be transmitted via air and thus it is a much more serious problem than HIV or Hepatitis B or C (for which there are effective treatments). It is my understanding that the number of viral particles in a speck of fluid is many millions higher than with HIV. Bleeding during pregnancy could be several things from a threaten miscarriage (many reasons you bleed), placement of the placenta, or the worst outcome would be an ectopic pregnancy. The causes do change as you get further along in the pregnancy.

Assessment of liver echogenicity is of value for assessing moderate to pronounced fatty infiltration but is not reliable for diagnosing fibrosis. Smooth external outline means there is not cirrhosis. See your MD for additional testing and treatment for fatty liver
