First, in fluid accumulation, taking both water and salt makes it much worse. High salt diets do NOT generally get people's sodium level abnormal simply because it triggers thirst and people drink and it triggers water retnetion and people swell.

Not entirely: The high salt would cause fluid retention in persons with heart or kidney disease. If healthy, you should not develop edema with this diet. It is important to note that high protein diet is not sure to be safe for kidneys for the long haul i. E. A year or more. If you have fluid retention, you need to have your kidneys and heart evaluated by your doctor.

Think about this: if it weren't so, over time, you'd blow up if you even retained a tiny amount, or shrivel up if over-diuresed. Kidneys do an amazing job.
