i have very high levels of dhea (480) but borderline low cortisol (3.7). endocrinologist says pcos. i worry about adrenal fatigue. should i worry?

Not normal: First of all there is no such thing as "adrenal fatigue" (not a real disease or condition). With high DHEA, you could have a steroidogenic enzyme deficiency causing congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Do you have any male-pattern hair growth? Irregular or absent periods? Other steroids &amp; steroid intermediates I would check are: 17(OH)progesterone, Androstenedione, and testosterone; others to check too

i'm told i prob have adrenal fatigue, and high impact workouts are no-no's. what are some good low impact exercises to get me in shape safely?

Swimming, dancing,: Qigong, tai chi, and above all laughing!  peace and good health.  If your adrenal fatigue is a result of stressful lifestyle please consider changing it.  Some 16 y. O. Folks are into everything and it can lead to exhaustion.  Be sure to get lots of sleep.

Not usually: Adrenal insufficiency will tend to cause low blood pressure. But it is possible to have high blood pressure plus mild adrenal insufficiency. The BP and adrenal gland problems would not be linked in this case.

Ask questions: Adrenal fatigue is overdiagnosed. You may get fatigued, but your adrenals seldom do.  If you have adrenal failure (addison's) you need to see an endocrinologist.  A steroid shot will cause temporary elevated wbc. Why would a 33 yo woman have osteoporosis and bone necrosis?  Did you have premature menopause?  I suggest you see an internal medicine md or endocrinologist to sort this out.

Clarification: Hi. First of all, there is no such thing as "adrenal fatigue"; it's a farce and doesn't exist. So that's something you can eliminate as a problem immediately. The muscle twitching can be anything from electrolyte disorders due to his kidney disease to ALS; he needs to see his doctor. Hi CK can be evaluated to find the tissue source of the elevation, which will help determine the cause. Good luck!

Other issues: Your CRP indicates presence of inflammation some where in the body. It could be in your liver due to Hep C. There are effective treatments that cure most people of this infection. Adrenal fatigue is not a recognized clinical entity. Please consult your doctor for Hep C treatment.

No: Adrenal "fatigue" is not a medical diagnosis.  It has been used to describe a set of symtoms that people have, usually unrelated to adrenal function.  Testosterone is made by the testicles and to a small degree by the ovaries.  There are other, less potent androgens made by the adrenal gland (dhea).

Yes: Adrenal fatigue is not something that is recognized by traditional medicine but integrative medicine/alternative medicine treats and believes in this  you need your adrenal hormones checked as well as your full thyroid since they are often connected.  This can be done via serum. Saliva or urine depending on the physician.

Yes: The answer to your question is yes. Adrenal hormones are intimately involved in estrogen & Progesterone balance. Progesterone can affect basal body temperature. Hormones in general affect body temperature. Seeing a doctor to rule out infection is important with persistent low grade fever.

elevated tsh, normal t4, no hypothyroid symptoms. have recently quit caffeine / significantly reduced alcohol (in case it's adrenal fatigue). is this likely to lower tsh? how long to see results?

There is: There is a condition called subclinical hypothyroidism where where the TSH can be slightly elevated and a patient may or may not have symptoms.  If the patient does not have symptoms, medication is usually not started and the TSH is rechecked later.
