: You may have a type of.mild pancreatitis which causes intermittent malabsorption of fats resulting in passing loose greasy stools. I recommend consulting a gastroenterologist for evaluation &amp; advice. Appropriate testing, including measurement of serum triglycerides, will be ordered.

Pancreatitis or VSG: A vertical sleeve gastrectomy removes about 75% of stomach, including the part that covers a lot of the pancreas.  Both surgery in this area and general anesthesia can cause elevations in lipase, which represent pancreatitis.  CANCER NEVER ELEVATES LIPASE (very rare cases).  Lipase must have been measured because of pain -- no other reason.  Could also be a leak or an ulcer.  Rec endoscopy &amp; CT.

: It is possible that some OTC products /Supplements might be affecting these enzymes. Low grade Inflammation from other causes might also be responsible. The oily diarrhea is suggestive digestive enzyme issue.  At this time best to see Gastroenterologist for proper evaluation and management.

Pancreatitis: Hi. What did the doc who ordered the test tell you? We order tests for a reason to either try to confirm a suspicion or rule it out. In your case, it's looking for causes of your abdominal pain and bloating. Your lipase is high, and the most common reason would be pancreatitis, which certainly could be the cause of your symptoms. Pancreatitis can make you very sick. Talk with your doc.

Pancreatitis: High lipase can indicate inflammation of the pancreas (chronic or acute). Talk to your doctor, he/she will explain this to you and come up with follow-up plans.

More than a little: Elevated. Elevations of amylase and lipase are usually due to pancreatic damage, and some times due to intestinal obstruction, renal failure. X-ray is not the most sensitive diagnostic tool for pancreatic lesions. Do you drink; or have gall stones? It would be prudent to consult a gasto-enterologist for a proper workup for your level of enzyme elevations.

Ans: Well need to start with a good history of you. Do you drink alcohol?  You will need to follow up on these results and see if they improve. May need a scan so stay with your doctor

Maybe nothing: A mild elevation of serum lipase generally means nothing whatever.  Even taking an Ibuprofen tablet may raise the level. The reference range is simply what most folks have. Lipase is assayed primarily to rule out acute pancreatitis, which is not a subtle disease and in which lipase is usually several times above the top of the reference range.

Usually pancreatitis: High lipase levels are generally associated with pancreatitis and other problems with the pancreas. Inflammation of the gall bladder, kidney failure and stomach problems are among other problems associated with hyperlipasemia. I strongly encourage you to have a complete exam at a medical clinic as soon  as possible. You should be properly diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.
