T-cell subsets: Cd4 and cd8 are cell surface markers found on different subsets of t-cells.  Cd4 and cd8 t-cells have different functions.  Cd4 cells are often called "helper cells" because they help direct the immune response of other cells through the release of chemicals called cytokines.  Cd8 cells are direct effector cells involved in things like tumor suppression and killing infected cells.

Low cd4/cd8: Normal ratio for cd4/cd8 is 2.0, so yours is low.  By leukocyte, do you mean WBC as part of the CBC?  Do you know the total lymphocyte count?  The ratio indicates that you either have low CD4 count or a high CD8 count.  This may be transient in response to acute infection or due to chronic inflammatory process.  Since much more info about your medical scenario is needed, recommend virtual consult.

i just got my lab results from the hemotologist. i was told everything's in the normal range. cd4=40%, cd8=26 why am i still worrying myself? help.

Good question: If your concern is HIV infection, then you will need to practice safe sex else this will be a recurring concern.  If you are still feeling unwell, perhaps there are other conditions other than AIDS that's causing the problem.

LEUKOCYTOSIS: LEUKOCYTOSIS = elevated WBC. These labs associated with infection/leukemia /lymphoma and demand prompt evaluation  You need an Exam/Labs/UAC&amp;S and CXR to start. Also ct scan of chest/abd/pelvis .If no source is found then a hematology consult with bone marrow biopsy may be warranted

: Why did you have this test? CD4/8 testing normally is only done in people with HIV to follow their immune functioning over time. If that's your situation, these are great numbers, showing a strong cellular immune system without serious damage (yet?) from HIV, or that your anti-HIV treatment is effective. There are few other reasons for such testing, but in any case these numbers look great.

HIV negative: The HIV test is the only one that matters. If you were tested long enough after the last possible exposure (4-8 weeks, depending on the particular test or combination of tests), you don't have it. It was pointless to have the other tests. Nobody without a positive HIV test should be tested for CD4 etc. Your results are fine and don't indicate any health problem. Stop testing.

It depends: Cd markers tell us what subsets of lymphocytes we have in our blood. Cd3 is found on the surface of all t cells. T cells are involved in directing other immune cells and in killing other cells. Cd8 cells are a subset of cd3 cells, and are commonly called cytotoxic t cells. They can go up in a viral infection, leukemia, etc. You need to know your other subsets, and if any other markers are abnormal.

Could be many things: The interpretation of laboratory tests involves comparison with the "normal" ranges in the context of the symptoms that are being experienced by the patient. There is no way to get an answer to your question other than to discuss it with the physician who ordered the tests.
