i have had mid-low back pain since september. i have been diagnosed with esophagitis, a hiatal hernia. no one has looked at back.. i had my gallbladder checked, it was normal. but tonight my arm pits hurt is pain related to stomach? i feel crappy?

Accepted Answer

: No, stomach problem does not cause a referred pain in the armpit area. Just take 2 tylenol or 2 ibuprofen OTC for now and observe the response and any change in the area. Food pipe is right behind the spine column so some patients with reflux esophagitis may have pain in the upper back area although most will have substernal and epigastric pain.

i have a pressure sensation under right ribs felt more when sitting and laying on side. often with many burps. sometimes tingling sensation same location. have a hiatal hernia, prior diskectomy l4-5, & canal narrowing lumbar spine. why the sensation?

Diagnosis : You need to allow The physician who ordered the tests to take the results and along with your history,clinal and clinical findings come up with the correct diagnosis

i was just diagnosed by endoscopy with hiatal hernia, gerd, and erosive gastritis. would any of these cause pain in the left side waist/flank area?

No: These would not typically cause flank pain. If you are flexing your trunk muscles in response to your GERD symptoms, you may have some muscle stain, but that's as close as it gets. Hope this helps!

would a hiatal hernia show up on a chest ct scan that was looking at my lungs? the top of my kidneys were visualized in this ct scan. would an ultrasound be an option to find out if i have a hiatal hernia instead of a barium swallow or endoscopy?

: Visualization of an organ depends whether it is included in the field being used for a a test. Instead of self diagnosis tell your MD of your concern and an appropriate test will be ordered.Ultrasound can but is not the best option.

Maybe: If there was an incision on the front of your abdominal wall, you can get a hernia at that incision site. It occurs 15-20% of the time. You may need to see a general surgeon for an exam.

Primary care: Most back problems are initially seen by a primary care doctor and have a very favorable short term prognosis.  For more severe cases, a  patient is often sent to a specialist such as an interventional pain specialist or an orthopedic or neurosurgeon.  Thank you for the question.

Doubtful: Sports hernia is a term used or groin pain in athletes that may be attributable to a hernia, or musculoskeletal inflammation from the adductor tendon, or muscle strain in the area. Shouldn't cause back pain, but associated spine disc disease could be responsible for groin pain. May need a special MRI to make the determination.

Sports Hernia: Lower back pain could be a secondary sports hernia, however, typically sports hernias are assoicated with pain in the abdominal or groin region.

Accepted Answer

Other symptoms: How bad is the back pain? Some soreness at site of epidural normal for several days to a week. If pain 5/10 or higher, or if he also has headache, suspect spinal fluid leak at site of epidural and needs to see doctor.
