Mild pancreatitis: Alcohol is a gastric and pancreatic irritant.  Pancrease (pancrelipase) lies  right behind stomach

i am 34 and have a hiatal hernia. i drink alcohol occasionally. i watch my diet and exercise gas and bloating have increased. why? soothing remedies?

See your doctor: Increased gas and bloating are symptoms of malabsorption, generally.  This can be multifactorial, i.e. Related to diet, stomach, gallbladder or pancreatic disease, or a host of other issues.  Sometimes over the counter products containing mylicon can be of some help, but i would recommend a thorough evaluation with your primary doctor and perhaps upper endoscopy (egd).

can you get a hernia from drinking alcohol?

Not per se: One cannot get a hernia from drinking alcohol. But passing out under the influence increases the risk for aspiration of stomach contents into the trachea and lungs.  The cough associated with aspiration can be so vigorous as to cause hernias and in extreme cases a rupture of the esophagus.

No: If you fall from a stupor it might increase your chances.

is drinking alcohol 2 days after inguinal hernia surgery ok or will it increase bruising in groin area?

Accepted Answer

A couple drinks OK: Excessive drinking can affect your liver's function ... Which might cause more bruising, but in general won't have any effect.  A couple of drinks is ok.  Good luck with your hernia repair ... I hope you're having it done laparoscopically!

Hiatal Hernia: Hiatal hernias can come and go, get better (especially with weight loss), and can get worse (with time and age, weight gain, increased abdominal pressure).  They can cause acid reflux, feeling full early, chest pain and even feeling short of breath).    Good luck.

i know of the things i cannot eat and drink but would decaf coffee be ok?

Yes: Sorry to hear about your hiatal hernia but the good news is there are many things that you can still enjoy. Studies have shows that decaffeinated coffee has been shown to decrease the acid reflux symptoms commonly experienced when drinking regular (caffeinated) coffee. You can also try experimenting with low acidity coffee to see if that agrees better work you.

pain in right middle back by spine, 1 inch below shoulder blade. swallowing food or drink seems to irritate it. endoscopy only hiatal hernia. ideas?

Other symptoms?: Does it feel like a pulled muscle?  How long does it last ?  Do certain foods make it worse.  Have you tried any meds?  Did you injure the muscle working out?  Would you say it is more related to food or activity?  If food, you may want to obtain us of gallbladder to rule out stones a common cause of rt back pain exacerbated by food. Is there any abdominal pain? Bloating? Nausea?

had laparascopic surgery for hiatal hernia repair one week ago. the past few days, i'm been very auseated after eating and drinking. is that normal?

No: If you had the surgery one week ago you should not be experiencing symptoms. Could be some other issue, but I would let your surgeon know about the issue.
