No specific cause: Groin or inguinal hernias are quite common in men, and may be somewhat hereditary. It is a weakness in the fibers that may be weak since birth. Can sometimes be associated with heavier lifting or repeated straining.

The main issue "concerning" about hernias is the potential for intestine to get stuck (incarcerate) in the hernia; the blood supply could get cut-off, leading to intestinal death & the need for emergency surgery.  The risk of this happening is dependent on the size & shape of the hernia; it is this factor & one's symptoms that guide our recommendations.

as a male my first inclination when i read your question was to worry about an infection in the scrotum called epididimytis. 

I would first have a series of questions to ascertain the true reason behind the urinary symptoms.

But, an exam and an evaluation with a medical professional should happen sooner rather than later.  Especially if the scrotum is hot, swollen, and tender.

: yes it can be secondary to a hernia, the pain is usually associated with a lump in the groin that usually goes away when lying flat. Other causes of groin pain is hip from the hip such as arthritis in the hip. A good physical exam is what is needed.

Many things.: It could be diverticulitis, bowel obstruction, ovarian torsion, ruptured cyst , pelvic inflammatory disease etc,. The cause of the pain can only be adequately diagnosed only after a thorough evaluation by your doctor. This may include labs and other studies. Once all of the information is in, your doctor can let you know what's going on, and what to do to help you.

Plane has no effect: Unless the hernia is large, it is out and not reducable and not painful he will be ok. But it would be wise to see a doctor. If it is large, it makes sence to have it surgically treeated with  a planned surgery compared to an urgent surgery. The main recommendation - no heavy lifting.
