i went to the er yesterday morning with what appeared to be very extreme anxiety with an elevated heart rate of upwards 180 at times. was giving metoprolol to slow it down. i have propranolol at home, can i take that instead if it happens again?

Accepted Answer

: Do NOT attempt to treat abnormal heart rhythms on your own.  Take the metoprolol as your doctor recommended, and if you develop a rapid pulse again while on the medication, return to the ER.  Do not independently add propranolol.  If not done previously, do have a cardiologist involved.

was told to take my metoprolol at night to combat dizziness i've been experiencing.  i'm on it for tachycardia.

after taking it at the new time. i noticed my heart rate climbed to 130 gradually on my fitbit. it came back down. what could it be?

Metoprolol: Make sure that your taking the extended release from of metoprolol. The regular preparation may not last long enough for you. If you're already taking the extended form, you may require a stronger dose. I assume your lightheadedness was due to too slow a heart rate or too low a blood pressure in the past.

Check up: If this persists, consider a stress test with cardiologist to evaluate.

what is a normal exercise heart rate for a 15 year old male? just starting to grow. sometimes takes awhile for hr to slow down after standing up.

Formula: The target exercise heart rate is calculated by a formula which is 220 minus age and then use 85% of that number as the target exercise heart rate. However some exercise experts only recommend 60% of that number(220minus age) for teenagers. I prefer to use common sense and ask what are your goals-weight loss, elite conditioning, training for special events,etc.

i've been sendentary a long time so unfit my heart rate goes up too 147bpm only walking round the house will i take heart attack? or excersice slow!

Family practice : See your dr. And set an exercise plan suitable for you. Don't over do it at first. It will take time to get into shape. But make sure your heart is healthy.

verapamil: Given orally it can take more than an hour, given intravenously verapamil can work in  minutes or less.

i went to the dr today and was told i have seratonin syndrome. my heart rate still feels high. will this take time to lower?

Accepted Answer

: Seratonin syndrome is typically a result of medication interactions, or high dosing of certain provocative pharmaceuticals.  Once action is taken, stabilization should result within several days, depending upon half life of offending agents.

hi i take propranolol for anxiety  but i understand this slows my heart rate down , i want to join the gym but would taking propranolol be dangerous ?

No: generally no. your maximum heart rate may be slower but being on propranolol should not pose a serious risk. certainly worth discussing with the MD that prescribed the propranolol but it really shouldn't be dangerous. that said, i don't believe propranolol is all that effective for anxiety. if its helping then great but if not there are more effective anxiety meds: SSRIs.

is metaprolol 25 at night then another 2 hours before enough to take for cta exam at 11 to get heart rate down?

Metoprolol: That dose of metoprolol will usually cause adequate slowing in most people. There will always be someone who doesn't get adequate slowing and likely also someone who may get excessive slowing. No one dose regimen is perfect for everyone.

im 36weeks pregnant and experiencing high heart rate. currently between 95-122 while lying down. first time this is happening?

Probably “normal”:  Higher heart rates are very common during normal pregnancy, as the body is supplying blood and nutrients both to you and to the baby. It is important to check in with your obstetrician and make sure labs are checked, and ensure that you’re not anemic.
