Need a monitor: Although the palpitations you are experiencing may be a kind of "allergic" response, that is not likely unless there are other manifestations (like a skin rash) as well. It may be that you have an underlying arrhythmia or short circuit in the heart that is exacerbated by eating tomatoes. A cardiac monitor with a good tomato feast would help provide the answer.

Palpitations: There are several causes of palpitations, so the evaluation of your heart should include blood testing, ECG, echocardiogram, and possibly some additional cardiac testing. Since you also have coughing you should have a chest X-ray. The food related issue makes allergy response or aspiration both possible problems. See your doctor for further eval.

Could be worrisome: But if the palpitations are not persistent I would expect it to be a side effect of the postpartum fluid and hormonal shifts.  You should follow-up soon with your OB.  At the least you need your vitals checked, and possibly some blood tests and EKG.

Discuss this with your physician.

No Salt: Edema has many causes. Basically, if you are overweight, have high BP and /or eat salty foods often, you probably will develop edema. Please check with your doctor re these conditions. You are very young to have anything seriously wrong with your heart, but watch your blood pressure
