why do i keep getting altitude sickness @ high altitudes.  i'm in good physical shape and have a heart rate of an athlete.?

Fitness is unrelated: Unfortunately, altitude sickness effects people quite variably, with some people highly susceptible. Vulnerability to altitude sickness is not affected by level of physical conditioning.  Medications can be very helpful, including Nifedipine and dexamethasone, but these have to be chosen carefully depending on any other health issues that you may have. Gradual ascent is the only certain prevention.

: While junctional  rhythm at a rate of 50-60 beats/minute is common in athletes, junctional tachycardia defined sustained junctional beats at a rate greater than 100 beats/minute is NOT a feature of athletes heart. When encountered, it may instead be reciprocating SVT with P waves superimposed on the QRS complexes. Vagal maneuvers may terminate this tachycardia with return to sinus rhythm.

Exercise: It's normal for your heart rate to rise during exercise, but with normal cardiac and thyroid status your heart rate should return to normal after a cool down period of 10-15 minutes or even less depending upon how vigorous the exertion was. I recommend that you have a cardiovascular assessment by a cardiologist and appropriate testing will be done.

: I am not certain how many 66 year old endurance athletes have been tested and followed to answer this question. Please discuss with your Cardiologist.

Heart attack: Generally young athletes have a serious underlying congenital heart or vascular abnormality that causes sudden death.

Maybe and maybe not: Your heart rate is low, whether it is normal or not depends on whether you have symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, or feeling faint. If you have symptoms then it is not normal if you do not and your heart rate goes up with activity, this maybe normal for you. You should however get an ekg and see your dr. If you have not.

Back to normal: A healthy person will have his or her usual heart rate an hour after exercise.

Heart rate: I personally don't believe there's a lot of firm evidence for any of the zone rate conditioning formuli. If you're sweating heavily and breathing reasonably heavily for about half an hour you should be conditioning well. If you mix in burst exercise(fartlicking) that has been shown to increase the rate of conditioning.

please help...i woke up this morn and when i got out of bed my heart rate was at 133bpm.i was only standing.it only went down to 125.im an athlete

Hi resting HR: Elevated sympathetic tone.Would check thyroid functions as hyperthyroidism is associated with elevated heart rate , and check for metanephrines in urine( pheochromocytoma which is associated with hypertension) as well as tilt test for postural tachycardia (POTS) which reflects autonomic regulation.
