Early LV Dysfunction: Heart pumps the blood to lungs and receives oxygenated blood to pump to whole body. For pumping, left ventricle contracts, it can be affected by weakening of cardiac muscles or reduced outflow area, aortic valve problems. Symptoms are shortness of breath on exertion, early fatigue, ankle swelling, palpitations. Further impairment can be prevented by early diagnosis and taking care of the cause.

Normal is 65%: A way of defining heart function is the ejection fraction (ef).  This is the percentage of blood pumped out of the heart with a heart beat.  So if full heart had 100ml of blood then it it pumped out 65ml that would be ef 65%.  Good can be hard to define.  Many people can function fine with an ef down to 35-40% and medical management.  If it gets below 25% then we would define that as heart failure.

Ejection fraction: Ejection fraction is a method of measuring how well the heart squeezes.  Normal should be around 65%.  It is the percentage of blood a full heart pushes out with heart beat.  So if a full heart had 100ml of blood then with an ef of 45%, 45ml of blood would be ejected with a heart beat.

Not necessarily : The heart Cath is more accurate than the estimated EF on echo ( high variability between interpretation of readers). The question would be how occluded are the coronaries arteries which supply the heart. Follow up with your cardiologist as scheduled.

Talk to your DR: Talk to your Cardiologist. Exercising while in a state of congestive heart failure has to be carefully monitored. The tiredness you feel is probably due to the lack of proper circulation and therefore oxygen. Your Dr will have ideas to help you feel better.

my husband just had a stress test for his heart function. the report has a line that reads, the patients perfusion images showed a moderate sized, severe intensity fixed inferior defect that extends from the base to the apex.. laymens terms?

: It means he had a past heart attack that left a rather large area of heart muscle damage. How serious it is now or might be in the future depends on his symptoms, examination, EKG, and other studies his doctors might recommend. Undoubtedly they will be arranging to review all this with him (and probably you as well). Good luck.
