New collagen: and connective tissues "knit" together the injured area; initially these tissues are less elastic than connective tissue which has been in place and moving constantly along with you and your body (arms, legs, trunk, etc). Slowly, as the new connective tissues organize they will become more elastic. It is just another feature of the miracle that is the functioning human body!  Stay well:)

why does the scrape on my nose skin still feel raw after 1 year? is it still healing if the skin feels irritated?

: The answer depends on how severe the scrape was a year ago and also whether it was or is infected.  Dose your nose still have a scab or is there just a scar there now?  Is the surrounding skin pink or red?  That might indicate irritation or infection.   If there is no scab, pink or redness and the scar just looks like a normal scar then it may just be normal itchiness from a scar.

i got a deep scrape/cut 7 days ago. there is some blueish grey skin and the side with the discolored skin seems to be developing a hard edge. is this part of healing process? have kept covered with bandaid and vaseline since initial injury?

: Your description of the wound still requires at least a topical antibiotic.  If not an oral antibiotic being a deep wound. Keeping wound clean, topical antibiotic and covered. Should allow proper healing.  If redness, pain develop see your doctor.

Many possibilities: There are several possible diagnoses; proper treatment depends on proper diagnosis, so see a dermatologist and find out what it is before doing anything.

i have abnormal pap. is there any treatment except scraping?

Accepted Answer

Depends: "abnormal pap" really doesn't tell me anything.  There are dozens of ways a pap could be abnormal.  What needs to be done ranges form nothing to taking biopsies.  Minor abnormalities like ascus or mild dysplasia usually go away spontaneously (without subsequent treatment), but you may need further testing (eg, colposcopy) to make sure no abnormalities were missed with the pap.

skin scraping for fungus test on mouth is positive, what does that mean? is it something serious?

It means: It means you have fungus and this can be treated with oral or topical meds.

i have a rash that looks like scabies but is not. skin scraping came back clear. all over  my  body but not on my face. any suggestions?

Hmm: If it looks like scabies I normally treat with Permethrin 5% as   sometimes there are only 6-8 Mites in your entire body leading to the negative skin scraping. Consider sending us a picture or seeing a dermatologist face to face and reconsider just treating for scabies.

is my skin scarred since i have not seen any improvement after 1 year? i over exfoliated my nose and cheeks using an eyebrow razor. my skin didnt bleed, but it got super thin in those areas from scraping at it so hard. will it take years to restore?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see a doctor, preferably a dermatologist. Wish you good health!

is it normal to feel a sharp pain when a healing cut on my knee rubs against the fabric or is exposed to pressure? the cut is from falling on the sidewalk and scraping my knee against the rough pavement. does the pain indicate that my cut is infected

Accepted Answer

You most likely: damaged some superficial (tiny) NERVES when you fell! This has resulted in what is called "hyperesthesia" and will subside as the nerves heal...(they take longer to heal than your skin (weeks-months) but eventually they will heal or "die" leaving you with an area of numbness!

finger skin habbit i have been scraping my thumb skin for the past 10 years. i do unintentionally when i am depressed. my thumb looks really bad and i have to hide it in public. any home remedy like vaseline that would work.

Unfortunately, : Unfortunately, the scraping has possibly caused habit tic deformity.  This is difficult to treat and improve.  I would recommend you research who is a good dermatologist comfortable with treating nails in your area.  I hope that helps.
