It's okay: The fabric of the band will air dry and would even benefit from hand washing  to keep it clean.  The metal or plastic parts are designed to tolerate moisture.

Accepted Answer

Yes: The cool design of the kids head makes it pretty tolerant to the headbanging. Its done either to get attention, release frustration or as a self stimulating behavior.They go through it without brain damage&if it hurts enough at any point they quit. You can watch them out of peripheral vision & not provide them with the direct eye contact they are trying to get. Over time they grow out of this.

Orthopedic force: First, only a very small percentage of orthodontic patients require headgear.  Headgear used to apply bone remodeling force and to affect magnitude and direction of growth.  Ask your Orthodontic Specialist what effect headgear is to have in your treatment.

Yes.  : Since Class III malocclusion of teeth is due to abnormal alignment of lower jaw, protruding forward, it usually gets worse with time, necessitating intervention by orthodontics at an early stage.

Soccer headgear: Although there are protective helmets available, studies have had inconsistent results on how effective they are for preventing concussions.  Head injury can occur regardless of the age of the other team members.  What is most important is, if your daughter does have impact to her head, that she stop playing and be assessed by a doctor.  Too many kids continue playing and risk further injury.

AAFO: Try looking up one at the american academy for functional orthodontics website. Interceptive treatment of a particular condition during growth is generally a better choice in terms of overall results. It often can minimize the need for extraction of permanent teeth, extensive orthodontics that may include headgear and maybe orthognathic surgery.

OK: Absolutely no way to examine your child in this forum.  That said, I assume you are seeing a university trained specialist Orthodontist, the dental expert best trained to diagnose and treat your child's malocclusion.  The mechanotherapy you describe, expansion + reverse pull head gear, is mainstream if upper jaw narrow and too far back.

have eye twitch in left eye/jaw/cheek when smiling, raising left eye brow, & sometimes talking.  does not happen on its own only with facial movement.  also a cpap user went to gp and suggested facial nerve irritated due to headgear being too tight?

Not worrisome: The facial nerve is being stimulated and firing on certain occasions.  It is probably irritated just in front of the center of the ear.  Try using some heat in this area if the symptoms are annoying.  It will disappear with time.

is it ok to pick the puss off a white headhead?

Accepted Answer

No: Pus is dead white blood cells that have tried to kill an infection. Picking it off does two things: 1) it re-opens the sore so it can get infected again defeating the purpose of the plug in the first place and 2) it will cause a scar because you damaged the skin repair happening underneath the whitehead. Don't pick at it. It will fall off when the infection is cleared and the skin is repaired.
