Constipation : That's what it sounds like. If the pain is directly below the sternum then it could be a gall bladder issue and worsened by fatty foods.  If sexually active, do a pregnancy test.  If feeling constipated,  then drink a $2 bottle of citrate of magnesium.  If persistent, then see your PCP.

A hard, tender abdomen could mean a ruptured appendix, a tear in the bowel, an obstruction, pancreatitis, or many other dangerous problems. The : The most common symptoms of flu according to the center for disease control are: 
-fever (usually high) 
-headache 
-nausea, vomiting or diarrhea 
-fatigue 
-sore throat 
-runny nose or congestion 
-cough 
-body aches

unfortunately, it is difficult to diagnose the flu versus another virus based on symptoms alone since many other illnesses can cause similar symptoms.  Give your doctor a call.  They may be able to test you for the flu.  In the meantime, get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids.  Good luck!

Musculoskeletal....: These pains are likely musculoskeletal in nature: coughing can lead to muscle strain, cartilage inflammation, rib fracture, etc.  Once the cough resolves, the musculoskeletal pain will also slowly resolve. See your doctor for diagnosis and treatment of the cough!

Strain?: It sounds from your description like you may have strained the muscles in and around your abdomen if the pain is only occurring when you are doing anything physical.This,similar to any other kind of muscular strain, should improve over the next several days,but ibuprofen or naproxen plus heat to the area *may* help.If the pain lasts much longer than a week or more, see your doc for further help.

Stmch pain w/ cough: May be due to muscle strain from coughing if having cold, or have reflux and the reflux is causing the cough/sneezing from irritation  by acid .See if ranitidine or prevecid would resolve it. When you sneeze, /cough you increase intraabd pressure  rarely t could be pushing on lesion  and causing the pain , therefore f/u w/doc may need CT to check abdomen/pelvis for lesion/ aneurysm.

Pressure: It is likely a pressure change from the thoracic to abdominal cavity and likely the esophagus might have a slight movement through the diaphragm. This is all speculation.
