ACL: Not uncommon. If acute onset, usually ice and rest followed by rehab of hs with stretching and strengthening is all that is usually required. Would recommend discussing and having evaluated by your surgeon.

Patella femoral : If your pain is in front/under your knee cap, then most likely patella femoral pain syndrome/chondromalacia patella. Best managed with exercise to strengthen your quads to improve tracking, and avoiding deep knee bending activities. Also oral or topical nsaids can be of benefit, as well as a brace or injections. This is common after surgery as your muscles controlling the patella are out of shape.

Check up: You had acl surgery 12 weeks ago.  You now notice the knee feels loose.  It is normal to feel at risk after the surgery.  You might remember the pain and the body is never as good as it was the first time.  You should have a follow up apoitment with your orthopedist. He/she will examine you for flexibility and may repeat the mri to make sure the repair is healing.

ACL: Check with orthopedic surgeon: consider scar, graft impingement, tears.

Acl repair: normal  soreness but watch for increased swelling and redness of entire leg.  Follow up with your doctor or go to ER if that happens

Depends...: Check your surgeons post-op protocol and/or check with your physical therapist. Together they will be able to answer specific questions about your exercises and recovery.

No : Need to have an orthopedic specialist or the surgeon look at it.

how long after acl surgery would i need to keep my leg elevated for?

Accepted Answer

Variable: The more you elevate the leg the better immediatly after surgery.  This lasts for at least the first 3-4 days.  After the acute period, you shuld elevate it whenever you feel like it is swelling.  After the first month, the mojority of the surgical swelling shoul have resolved.  Pain or swelling in the calf is another story, you should notify your surgeon immediately with any new calf swelling.
