Variable: The more you elevate the leg the better immediatly after surgery. This lasts for at least the first 3-4 days. After the acute period, you shuld elevate it whenever you feel like it is swelling. After the first month, the mojority of the surgical swelling shoul have resolved. Pain or swelling in the calf is another story, you should notify your surgeon immediately with any new calf swelling.
