Male pattern: hair loss. There are two effective medications to prevent male pattern hair loss. There is rogaine (minoxidil)  which is topical and there is the oral medication propecia.

: Highly unlikely , but demodex may be related to acneiform lesions on lower face. See dermatologist for evaluation and possible treatment for your hair loss and itching.

im 17 years old and am losing hair in the temples of my head. its getting pretty far back on the right side. i work out heavily and eat very well. other than genetics i cant think of any reason id have this issue. how can i regrow or prevent loss?

See dermatologist: You need to properly diagnose  this hair loss. Should it be the very common androgenetic alopecia, known as male pattern baldness, he will provide you with possibly an oral med along with a topical otc med to help you. However, it just might be something different, and that is why you should be evaluated.

No: Genetics cause permanent hair loss. If you are scratching and getting hair to break / fall off, then you may have a dermatological condition that needs exam and treatment (your Dr or a Dermatologist), but should grow back once resolved.

Find the cause first: Sometimes medical illness can cause hair loss..Such as hormonal imbalance, medication use/chemo, thyroid diseases etc...Some females excessive testosterone and may have androgenic alopecia--male-pattern baldness..But it is rare.
Thus, it is best treating the causes.
If no cause found, topical rogaine (minoxidil) may help...But this only helps as long as it being used..Hair will fall off after stopping use.

Depends on cause...: One's primary care doctor can check for medical causes. If none are found, then one can see a dermatologist, especially one specializing in hair restoration (some treatments: minoxidil, finasteride, hair transplants, ...). Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium.

Several tests: Ferritin level, thyroid hormone, free testosterone level. Most likely this is hereditary.

Maybe: Depends on you.  The hair falling out is often troublesome, messy, and somewhat prolonged (days to weeks).  Some people prefer just to shave it off and adopt a new look for men or make wearing wigs or scarves easier for women- often with strikingly beautiful results- really!

Hair loss: An injury to the head per se will not cause hair loss unless the hair follicles are damaged such as through a cut or a "rip" of the scalp. In those cases, it would be at the site of injury. If you have significant hair loss, I recommend seeing a dermatologist or rheumatologist.
