Behavior  you have associated with the "bad" habit is best avoided if possible. Exercise and diet are other positive endeavors that help.

Change Is Possible: If one's habits are unhealthy, replace the "unhealthy" habit with a "healthy" habit. Closely watch your behavior and reward yourself when you successfully demonstrate the healthy behavior. If you make a mistake and see the unhealthy behavior, ignore it and move on. Do not reward the unhealthy behavior by making a big deal over it. Good luck - change is possible.

Possibly: Unfortunately we have depended on medicine to solve our problems more easily because we are too lazy to put out the effort ourselves.  I dont mean this to be deragotory, we all do it but if we can solve our problems ourself we have a better feeling of accomplishment and self esteem rather than allowing some chemical or mechanical appliance to solve it for us.  Although sometimes they are necessary.

Dear Woodchuck: Is the pain from your back injury or your headaches a contributing factor. I don't why you are experiencing sleep problems. Try using good sleep hygiene. If that doesn't wor please see your doctor for medical evaluation. Sometimes a consultation with a sleep specialist is needed & a somnogram (sleep study).
