Known as Stribild: It is also known as Stribild, which contains Elvitegravir, Cobicistat, Tenofovir, Emtricitabine. It is a newer single tablet regimen that is potent and well tolerated.  Elvitegravir is a newer Integrase Inhibitor.  Cobicistat is a pharmacologic booster, which means it is used to boost the levels of Elvitegravir to an adequate level to fight HIV.  Tenofovir and Emtricitabine are in NRTI class.

Dormant HIV: Unfortunately, some of the cells the virus infects can lie 'dormant' for &gt;13 years.  Our hope was that treating the virus would rid our patients of the infection in time but we need to make those latent cells infected w/virus 'apoptose' or die ; prevent new immature cells from being infected.  It has been more difficult than we anticipated but work is actively being done.  We have hope!

The symptoms you describe could be due to an opportunistic infection-one that is present due to the low immunity. Your friend needs to go to the nearest ER right away!
