A member asked:

Although haart therapy only kills free floating hiv virus, won't the dormant reservoirs eventually die off leaving the person free of hiv?

Unfortunately, some of the cells the virus infects can lie 'dormant' for >13 years. Our hope was that treating the virus would rid our patients of the infection in time but we need to make those latent cells infected w/virus 'apoptose' or die ; prevent new immature cells from being infected. It has been more difficult than we anticipated but work is actively being done. We have hope!
