my wife said that i make gurgling sounds in my sleep. what does this mean?

: This may have many causes, but I would ask if she finds your greatly slowing or even stopping your breathing for a time [possible Obstructive Sleep Apnea], which really needs investigation soon. Other causes could range from nasal allergies, to mucus production should he be a smoker, to gastroesophageal reflux disease [GERD], to structural anomalies in his nose. Please see an M. D.

Gastritis: If this is a new thing, symptoms are likely related to some type of stomach irritation.  Either a viral process or perhaps dietary excess-drinking too much, wrong food etc.  Antacid and or a product with simethicone may help. If this is a more regular or recurrent problem you should probably be seen.

i have all sleep apnea symptoms, but i don't choke or gurgle to catch my breath every night.  can that happen with obstructive apnea?

Sleep apnea. : So by symptoms, do you mean daytime sleepiness and snoring?  If so, this could very well still be sleep apnea. A sleep study would tell us for sure.

: Such noises ate the movement of air you swallow/carbonation released, and gasses created by gut germs feeding on intestinal debris. As collections of these plus fluid move, they will make noise. By itself it is a normal activity, not a disease.  To decrease this, avoid carbonated beverages, take some probiotics &amp; keep a food diary to identify foods that aggravate the issue.
