Normal post-op: Erythema (red nessof the tissue) is one of the normal cardinal signs of inflammation that occur after a procedure, such as an extraction. 
If pain, swelling or fever occur, consult the treating dentist.

Gingivitis?: It sounds like you have a condition called gingivitis which in lay terms means swollen gums. Most often caused by accumulation of plaque and tartar along and/or below the gumline, it needs to be addressed and treated. See a dentist for an examination, have your teeth cleaned by a hygienist, and step it up with your home care. Brush 2-3 times a day and floss every day.

Inflammation: Something may be caught in there. It could be food, but more likely calculus. Calculus is hardened bacteria that needs to be scraped off by a dentist or hygienist. Failure to do so can result in an abscess, bone loss, gum diease, and finally loss of the tooth.

Failing crown?: This sounds like at least 2 problems. Something is not right with your bite, so you're chipping a tooth, and this will spread to other teeth. Your gums can be inflamed because of bacteria. If you have a crown on this tooth, then it would likely be that the shape of the crown is inappropriate and the margins (the seam b/w tooth and crown) are not properly contoured and sealed. See a dentist.

See your dentist: May be inflammation of the tissue due to a piece of food getting stuck beneath the gum margin, could be a problem with that particular tooth (deep decay) resulting in a root abscess. It is best to see your dentist to determine the exact cause and to determine a treatment plan.

Aphthous ulcer: It's most likely a canker sore.  It is painful, I get them sometimes when I eat acidic foods.  You can put some oil of clove on it to numb it.  It will burn a bit when you put it on but will go away within a few minutes.  If your dentist has a soft tissue laser that can also help with the healing process.  It should go away in about a week.  Hope this helps!!!

Unlikely: The tooth with deep cavity is full of harmful bacteria.  Unlike a baby tooth, a permanent adult tooth won't fall out so easily, as the roots are much deeper. For now, your body is constantly fighting against ever-increasing bacteria in the tooth. Left untreated, you will likely have an abscess--a dangerous infection that can invade other parts of face and body. Please see a dentist asap.
