GBS: Many adults may carry group b streptococcus(gbs) in their body with symptoms.  However some adults can develop a urinary tract infection (UTI) from gbs.  Continue to see your doctor for treatment of your uti.

Yes: Although I would consider it 'over kill' since Group B Strep is easy to kill. The doctor should have a 'culture report' that says what antibiotics are effective against the germ, so you might want to call if you've not yet got your prescription filled. (Amoxicillin would have been just fine for example). In some ways, it's nice to 'save' the spectrum of activity -and target the germ more precisely

i had a urinalysis pos. for trace protein, trace ketones, & small leukocytes. no uti symptoms except urine leakage. culture = below 10kcfu group b strep. also had elevated skin cells in urinalysis. does this signal infection? neg. for stds but had bv?

: Was this a careful clean catch specimen? The findings are not consistent with a urinary tract infection as that small amount of bacteria in the colony count most likely comes from inevitable &amp; unavoidable contamination of the specimen by skin bacteria. However, if you're experiencing urinary symptoms, I recommend consulting a urologist for appropriate workup.

i have a group b strep uti. im 5 days into amoxicillin treatment and am still having symptoms, especially at night. does this mean the meds likely arent working, or should i finish the course? (its not my first uti, so i worry about resistance.?

UTI treatment: UTI symptoms can take several days to clear up. If your symptoms are improving, it's probably working. If no better than when you started treatment -- or if symptoms continue after treatment is entirely completed -- contact the doctor or clinic treating you.

group b strep uti, on keflex for 7 days still having symptoms, is there a better antiboitic for this class of uti?

Strange: Group b strep is usually exquisitely sensitive to penicillin and its derivatives, like amoxicillin.  Should also respond appropriately to Cephalexin (keflex).  There is a small number of patients, however, who do not absorb Keflex from their GI tract.  Advise you to go back and see your doctor and get re-cultured and re-evaluated.  If this was upper tract UTI you should not be on oral therapy.  Go.

can group b strep cause cervicitis?does nitrofurantoin mono/mac 100mg caps(dr prescribed it)treat group b strep?uti was also positive i finished the meds twice a day for 7 days but my symptoms are back.all stds were negative.can hpv be a possibility?

: Nitrofurantoin is not used for treating strep. Best to see your Gyn for proper assessment andRx

24 hrs: The medicine should take effect and you should begin relief of symptoms within 24-48 hrs.

See your doctor : Anytime you have an active infection and then develop back symptoms you should see your doctor.

No: Not effective for UTI or vaginits.

Unlikely: GBS is a common germ in your poop that sometimes crosses over to cause UTI's in women. Intercourse does not pass it to men like a STD. At any one time 1/3 of women will have GBS living in their genital tract.It comes and goes.
