Mucus color: One of the oldest methods of determining a persons health, is to notice the color, smell, and consistency of various bodily fluids.  A brown mucus, is likely the result of bacterial overgrowth or infection.  This could be a sinusitis and require antibiotics to treat.  If this is new, and happening more than just once, i would recommend an evaluation by a physician.  Also note any fever or chills.

See an ENT doctor: There are numerous causes of what you describe.  Go see an ENT doctor so they can perform nasal endoscopy (place a small fiberoptic camera in your nose).  You likely have a form of rhinitis (nasal inflammation causing runny nose) but could also have a form of chronic sinusitis where mucous is blocked in your sinuses and drains out occasionally.  Hard to discern without a thorough exam.

Nasal wash out: Nasal mucus will eventually color over time due to the common germs living on the nasal mucus. By itself it doesn't require any effort beyond the everyday need to keep their nose clear. A good nasal washout with nasal saline can help them breathe. Cough/cold meds are not considered helpful in that age group. Attention to comfort/fluids &amp; nutrition are the basics.

Odd comment/question: It would seam you have decided your kid gets nasal mucous from drinking milk. If it is only there when she drinks it, and never when she doesn't, I suppose you could be right. Just avoid it.There are other ways she can get her nutritional needs met.This would be an odd way for a milk intolerance to show up but it is possible.You might review this with a doc  who could examine her.

Possibly antibiotics: They may give you antibiotics, but more important to discuss all of your symptoms and duration of symptoms. Mucinex (guaifenesin) and dextromethorphan as listed on your medications is a good start. This may be viral, but the medical provider at the urgent care should be able to elicit the history and exam which will drive treatment.

Vomiting: Brownish colored mucus from nose may be due to old bloody mucus present in the nose and your childs vomiting may be due to a post nasal drip which is irritating and can cause vomiting.

Infants cold &amp; cough: Fenistil is an antihistamine, not available in the U.S. Prospan is also not available here. General speaking American Academic of Pediatrics does not support treatment of common colds  of viral origin in infants and children with cough or cold medication. Supportive measures such as warm fluid, nasal saline irrigation and hydration . The viral illness has to go to its course about 1 to 2 weeks.

quit ciggs 13 yrs ago. light med mj use. constant nasal drip. snorted mucus from nose into throat, maybe coughed too, not sure if i coughed. basically clearing throat mucus in morning. little bit of brown mucus one time. is brown mucus concerning?

Try to stop smoking: What is "light" marijuana smoking? Any at all is harmful -- mj smoke is just as bad for lung health as tobacco. Your symptoms suggest bronchial/lung irritation and damage from smoking. Discuss with your doctor:  you need lung function testing and maybe a chest xray. There may be alternate treatments (cannabinoids or other) that would help whatever symptoms you are treating with mj.
