Mucosa of the colon: At colonoscopy the doctor will describe the appearance of the mucosa of the colon during the examination. Granular appearing mucosa usually means there is a roughened or sometimes reddish appearance and often correlates with inflammation in the colon.  The pathologist is the doctor who looks at the biopsy makes that diagnosis.

In and of itself,: granular mucosa in the colon is benign.  The mucosa is the lining surface in the colon and is normally smooth and pink. Granularity indicates irregularity and disruption of the color, sometimes leading to erosion or ulceration. This COULD be an early sign of inflammation in the bowel, such as ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease. Your Doctor will advise next steps for you. Stay well:)

Biopsy will show: Diagnosis of Ulcerative colitis is complex and has to be verified by the biopsy findings (your dr most likely had taken multiple biopsies from different parts of the colon and sent them to the pathologist for examination)

Multiple causes : That is a very broad and complicated issue, but I would suggest that you make sure your electrolytes are normal which includes calcium, magnesium, and potassium. All of these are important for muscle function.

Yes: He/she is probably being careful and looking for a diagnosis. Early Crohn's can look like this, and there are other entities. The pathologist may or may not be able to call it.
